We’re not supposed to trust others. Read the headlines, blogs, and study the data. It seems that everyone is wary, that everyone is doubtful. But our sense of social trust and togetherness can be restored.

“The Science of Trust and Why it Matters”, presented by best-selling author Ulrich Boser will be the 11th installment of the Garvey Lecture Series at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9, in the Davis Administration Building’s Alumni Auditorium.

Boser will discuss how the emerging research on trust can improve our lives, rebuild our economy, and strengthen society.

Dixie Madden, director of Friends University’s Garvey Institute of Law, said the topic of truth and honesty aligns well with the Institute’s mission and with the overall mission of Friends University.

“The Willard and Jean Garvey Lecture series has presented speakers throughout the years that address social problems,” Madden said. “Trust is a universal issue that can help anyone with any background work through issues in personal or professional relationships.”

Madden said Boser’s lecture and book is something that everyone can learn from.

“This lecture is truly for everyone,” she said. “We have an opportunity here to learn from survey-driven analysis and a phenomenal story-teller how trust affects us, and what we can do to improve on trust-driven relationships.”

This event is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required, and seating will be general admission. Doors will open at 7 p.m. There will be a reception and book signing immediately following the event. Boser’s book “The Leap: The Science of Trust and Why It Matters,” will be available for purchase at the event.
